This print of mine is based on the moray eel. When we went diving, our uncles would warn us and encouraged us when we were teenagers, telling us not to reach into holes to grab the crayfish when a crayfish sat in those rock holes because the moray eel hid in the rock holes too.

The Merrpa (Moray Eel) would lay ready to ambush and bite the fish with slightly bent backwards sharp teeths. When we speared crayfish with our crayfish spears, the crayfish would detach from the spear and go back into the hole, we’d just leave the crayfish and didn’t take the risk of putting our hands in the holes and get bitten.
